First impressions happen fast
Your website is often the first impression a customer gets of your business. Unfortunately, a few common design mistakes can send those visitors clicking away before they ever pick up the phone. Here are five of the biggest culprits, and how to fix them.
1. It’s slow to load
People are impatient online. If your site takes more than a few seconds to appear, a large chunk of visitors will leave before they see a thing. Heavy images, bloated plugins, and cheap hosting are usually to blame. A faster site keeps people around and helps you rank higher on Google.
2. It doesn’t work on phones
More than half of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your site is hard to read or tap on a phone, you’re frustrating most of your audience. Every modern site should look and work great on any screen size, no pinching or zooming required.
3. There’s no clear next step
Visitors should never have to guess what to do. Whether you want them to call, book, or buy, that action should be obvious and easy to find. A site without a clear call to action is a missed opportunity on every page.
4. It’s cluttered and confusing
Trying to say everything at once usually means saying nothing well. Crowded pages, tiny text, and too many competing messages overwhelm visitors. Clean layouts with plenty of breathing room are easier to read and feel more trustworthy.
5. The information is out of date
Old hours, a disconnected phone number, or last year’s prices quietly erode trust. If a visitor catches one mistake, they’ll wonder what else is wrong. Keeping your site current is one of the simplest ways to look professional.
The good news
All five of these are fixable. If your site is guilty of one or two, a thoughtful refresh can make a real difference in how many visitors turn into customers.
